World Children’s Initiative (WCI) made history this past Valentine’s Day.  As part of its healthcare development initiative, PROJECT HEART: Uganda, WCI’s Vice-President Dr. Kanishka Ratnayaka led a team of Ugandan and American medical personnel in performing the first ever advanced children’s heart procedure in east Africa.  At the new Children’s Heart Center in Kampala (developed by WCI and partner organizations) Dr. Ratnayaka’s team performed cardiac catheterization on a 4-year old Ugandan boy whose heart was beginning to fail.  They are happy to report that the patient is doing well, and will now be able to lead a happy and healthy life for decades to come.  Soon, with sufficient training provided by WCI and Dr. Ratnayaka’s team, Ugandan medical personnel will be able to save thousands of east African children with debilitating heart disease.
