Personal reflections on the ground from Uganda

I am only one, but I am still one. I cannot do everything, but I can still do something. And because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the something I can do. – Hellen Keller

I feel like there is so much to be done, so much to experience, and so many personal stories to hear about each day. And I know we cannot do everything in one day, one trip, or one year. But I do know we are doing something every day, every trip and each year to show these children and families we care, we are thinking about them. Everyday we are working so hard to fix these children’s hearts, and as many hearts as we can so these children can have a better life.

I am experiencing, I am witnessing, I am hearing first hand how thankful these parents are for having us here, doing what we are doing. Late in the evening on Saturday, a father who had travelled 7 hours on bus to have his 3 year old daughter screened looked up at me, smiled and said, “we are strangers, but it was God’s way that we meet.” This is just one of the many blessings and thank yous I receive each day as I visit the patients in the ward. I want to share these well wishes with each of you reading and following our journey here in Uganda.

Thank you to our donors for giving these parents hope, for letting them know strangers care about them, and giving me the opportunity to be here so I can share this with you.

A very special thanks to all for donating to WCI, and the Heal a Heart campaign, you are changing lives.
